Fibromyalgia and Sleep Disorders

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is characterized by chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, stiffness, sleep, and memory issues. 2 to 3 percent of the general population suffers from FMS, with women affected six to nine times more frequently than men. People with FMS experience pain from head to toe and often complain of poor sleep, chronic fatigue and headaches. The association of FMS and sleep disorders is continuously being reviewed. Research has shown that FMS is a byproduct of a sleep disorder and a 2006 study showed a more than ten-fold increase in FMS in subjects with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) compared to the normal population.

AZ-Sleep, led by Leonard M Moss, MD, uses the latest technology in home sleep testing equipment and diagnostic monitoring. Dr. Moss will complete a thorough examination in order to determine the best treatment options for each patient. The results of our in home sleep test are read by Dr. Moss to determine the presence of a sleep disorder. In addition to offering CPAP, we can provide an alternative, an oral sleep appliance. We carefully monitor and track our patients’ progress and response to treatment. Our unique approach and model allows us to quickly diagnose and treat patients.
